Überblick : Als Ruka zu Beginn der Sommerferien aus dem Handballteam ihrer Schule fliegt, weiß sie nichts mit sich anzufangen. Aus Langeweile besucht sie das Aquarium, in dem ihr Vater als Meeresbiologe arbeitet, und lernt dort die Jungen Umi und Sora kennen, die im Meer von Dugongs aufgezogen wurden. Umi und Sora können unglaubliche Distanzen unter Wasser zurücklegen. Bei ihren gemeinsamen Ausflügen wird Ruka klar, dass auch sie eine übernatürliche Verbindung zum Meer hat. Die beiden Jungen berichten von einem großen Fest der Meeresbewohner und dass dazu ein besonderer Gast erwartet wird. Weltweit machen sich Schwärme von Walen und Fischen auf die Reise, um an diesem Fest teilzunehmen. Und auch ein Meteor spielt dabei eine Rolle. Ruka verliert sich immer mehr zwischen den beiden Welten und erfährt schließlich, dass eine ganz besondere Aufgabe auf sie wartet.
